I am originally from Fairfax, Virginia. A few days after I graduated high school I found myself standing nose to nose with a US Coast Guard boot camp drill instructor in Cape May, NJ. My time in the Coast Guard taught me a lot. First serving in roles at the Pentagon and White House, then as a quartermaster aboard the US Coast Guard Cutter Cowslip out of Astoria Oregon, I had a very exciting early twenties. After the Coast Guard, I found my way to a soundproof room at a radio station in Birmingham, AL where I fell in love with storytelling. As a “DJ” and an audio producer, I came to realize what a difference a good story can make in building connections between people, brands, and communities. Within a few years, my work attracted the attention of a major-market radio station cluster in Houston, TX. Lesley and I, newlyweds at the time, were whisked away to a land called Texas where we would live for more than 12 years. We had 3 kids (in a row) and bought our first home on the northwest side of the city, in a master-plan community.

During this time, I met an amazing young lady named Victoria Enmon. At the time Tori was just 11 years old and already considered a long-term survivor of leukemia. We met during the radiothon that I founded at KKBQ for Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston. This friendship would ultimately change the course of my life forever.

Tori’s cancer returned and she was forced to endure extremely long hospital stays as doctors fought to bring her cancer into remission. She fought it off. It came back again. During those years I launched a popular podcast and website community for video game enthusiasts called Sarcastic Gamer. I shared Tori’s story with our online community in hopes that they might donate used games and/or game systems to Tori to help ease her boredom during those long hospital stays. Hoping to gather a dozen or more games, Tori and I were overwhelmed when games began to arrive from all over the world. Big boxes arrived daily loaded with generous gifts from gamers. It was overwhelming. So many gifts arrived that Tori soon had to start giving them away to other kids on the cancer wing!

Sadly we lost Tori at the young age of 15. I was devastated as was our gaming community. I needed to do something to help the world remember Tori and help kids like her fighting cancer. That’s when the Idea for Extra Life came to me. A gaming marathon, not unlike a run or walk, where gamers got sponsorships from friends and family and played in a 24-hour marathon. What we expected to raise $10,000 in its first year, once again powered by impactful storytelling, ended up topping $120,000 for sick and injured kids.

Soon an incredible nonprofit organization took notice of Extra Life, and my career at Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals was born. Over the years at Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, my team and I grew the program to $1M per year. Then $2M. Then $4M. I was honored with a promotion near the end of my time at the organization to Vice President, Innovation at CMN Hospitals. To date Extra Life has raised more than $70M for more than 150 children’s hospitals in the US and Canada.

In the midst of my career at CMN, my family and I moved to Wears Valley in East TN. This would ultimately be a wonderful undoing for my corporate career. I fell in love with the area, the homes, and became quite jealous of the new career that Lesley had launched in Real Estate. In May of 2018, I gave CMN Hospitals notice that I was leaving to join her and build a business together. Many years of living on the road were finally coming to an end. Real Estate has provided me a path to more time with my family. It’s also incredibly fun!

Lesley and I make a great team, filling in each other’s gaps pretty well. We’ve taken what we’ve learned about the power of storytelling to help our listing clients create compelling narratives for their properties. While we will never stop giving back to the cause of pediatric cancer and children’s health, we have also greatly enjoyed the emotional paycheck that comes with giving back to our community through various local organizations. During the COVID outbreak, we founded, with a local friend and builder, Wears Cares to help families out of work, completely powered by local donations.

Wears Valley is our home. We’ve recently purchased land and are embarking on our first home build, which we will likely chronicle on this website. You may never have met a man more blessed than I am. I have the best wife and business partner in the world. My kids are amazing (but growing too quickly). I live in paradise…. and I love my job.
